Aberdeen is hosting a free community event in September that includes a 5K race, food trucks, games, and a bounce slide at Festival Park.

What’s happening: The Aberdeen Family Fun Day, themed “Cans, Rails & Community,” runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 at Festival Park, located at 60 N. Parke St. The event is part of the city’s America 250 Celebration, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The race: A 5K starts at 8 a.m. The course follows the Washington-Rochambeau March route from Post Road to Festival Park. Organizers are encouraging participants to wear red, white, and blue.

What else is there: After the race, the festival continues at Festival Park with:

  • Food trucks
  • Games and activities
  • A bounce slide
