Havre de Grace homeschooler earns global recognition from Johns Hopkins

A Havre de Grace homeschooler is being recognized among the brightest young academic minds in the world.

Joshua Clark has been honored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, after earning an exceptional score on an above-grade-level test known as the School and College Ability Test — taken as part of the program’s annual Talent Search.

What the Honor Means

The Center for Talented Youth draws about 16,000 students each year from more than 75 countries. Of those, fewer than 30 percent qualify for high or grand honors based on their scores. Joshua earned that distinction.

Amy Lynne Shelton, the program’s executive director, said the recognition goes beyond a single test score.

“This is not just recognition of students’ performance on one test, but a testament to their curiosity and capacity for learning,” Shelton said. “These students have demonstrated enormous potential, and now we encourage them to seek out experiences and communities that help them challenge and stretch their knowledge, connect with other young scholars, understand diverse perspectives, think critically, and pursue their goals confidently.”

What Comes Next

Along with the honor, Joshua gains access to Johns Hopkins’ catalog of rigorous courses offered in person, online, and in residential settings. Subject areas include mathematics, science and engineering, robotics and technology, language arts, and history and social science.

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth has identified and supported academically advanced students in grades 2 through 12 since 1979, drawing participants from across the United States and more than 75 countries worldwide.
