Twenty-five years is a long time. Long enough that the students who will perform at Harford County’s 9/11 memorial next week were not yet born when the towers fell.
The Harford County Department of Emergency Services will host a public memorial at the Harford County Fairgrounds Equestrian Center on Tollgate Road in Bel Air from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, marking the 25th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history.
The event will feature a procession of firetrucks representing the county’s volunteer fire companies, along with emergency and police vehicles. Students from Havre de Grace High School will provide musical selections.
“Harford County will never forget all those who were lost, the families who still miss them, and the heroes of 9/11 who ran toward danger to protect their fellow citizens,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said.
He also drew a connection between the memorial and the broader national moment — 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States.
“Especially in America’s 250th year, I encourage residents to join us, whether in person or in spirit, to remember the victims of these terrible attacks 25 years ago and to honor the endurance of our great nation,” Cassilly said.
The memorial service is open to the public.
