Parts of Harford County could see dangerous flash flooding this afternoon and evening as strong thunderstorms move through the region.

What’s happening: The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for both Northwest Harford and Southeast Harford, in effect from 2 p.m. through this evening. Forecasters say storms could drop 2 to 3 inches of rain per hour, with even higher rates possible in some bursts.

What this means for you: Low-lying areas, creeks, streams, and rivers could flood quickly. Areas that have already seen heavy rain in recent days are at higher risk. Forecasters say urbanized areas near I-95 are among the most vulnerable spots.

The path forward: The flood watch could be upgraded to a flash flood warning if conditions worsen. Residents should watch for updated forecasts and be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued. Flood safety information is available at weather.gov/safety/flood.
