People living near the water in Havre de Grace could see flooding this weekend, and boaters on the Chesapeake Bay are being warned to expect rough water, as a Nor’easter moves up the East Coast.
What’s happening: The Harford County Department of Emergency Services says wind and rain from the storm will affect the area starting today and lasting through the weekend.
- Winds of 15 to 25 mph arrive today, with gusts up to 35 mph possible, lasting through the weekend.
- Steady rain is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning, with showers continuing through Sunday morning before easing later in the day.
What this means for you: The rain could cause minor coastal flooding, especially in Havre de Grace. The lowest parts of the City Yacht Basin parking lot may flood, something that often happens when tides run high in that area. If the tide reaches about 4 feet, water could spill over the sea wall, called a bulkhead, in several spots around the yacht basin.
Boat owners are being urged to make sure their boats are tied down and secured before the storm arrives.
On the water: Gale warnings, meaning sustained winds of 39 to 54 mph, are in effect for parts of the Chesapeake Bay.
