A man was shot by his brother during an argument at an Abingdon home

A 65-year-old Abingdon man was shot and wounded by his 66-year-old brother early Tuesday morning during a domestic argument, according to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

What happened: Around 1 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a person shot in the 4000 block of Sharilynn Drive. They found the victim with a gunshot wound to his upper body and began applying pressure to control the bleeding until medics arrived. Medics stabilized him before a Maryland State Police helicopter transported him to a trauma center. He remains in critical but stable condition.

The arrest: 66-year-old Joseph S. Ray, the victim’s brother, was taken into custody at the scene without a struggle and transported to the Harford County Detention Center. He is awaiting an initial hearing before a judge.

The charges: Ray faces the following charges:

• Attempted first and second-degree murder.
• Possession of a regulated firearm and ammunition by a person prohibited from having them.
• Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The investigation: Detectives and crime scene investigators are working to establish the sequence of events, a motive, and any contributing factors. Investigators have conducted witness interviews and collected physical evidence from the scene.
