A natural gas leak shut down Philadelphia Road near Gunpowder Ridge Drive Monday morning. The road has since reopened, but repairs are ongoing.

What’s Happening: BGE crews responded to a leak on Philadelphia Road, also known as Maryland Route 7, near Gunpowder Ridge Drive. The road was closed for several hours before reopening at 10 a.m.

What’s Important: Gunpowder Ridge Drive remains partially blocked while BGE repairs the gas main. During the emergency, residents in the area were asked to shelter in place, meaning they were told to stay inside and avoid going outdoors.

How This Affects Real People: BGE warned residents along Route 7 near Gunpowder Ridge Drive and homeowners in the Gunpowder Ridge neighborhood that they may lose power and gas service for several hours while repairs continue.
