Eggspectation, an all-day breakfast and comfort food restaurant chain, plans to open a Bel Air location in Spring 2028 as part of the Derby Place development at the Harford Mall.

What’s Happening: The restaurant will take space in the former Macy’s building, which Atlanta-based developer SJC Ventures is converting into a mixed-use project called Derby Place. Commercial construction is scheduled to break ground in early July 2026.

What’s Important: The Bel Air location will be Eggspectation’s sixth in Maryland, joining existing restaurants in Owings Mills, Columbia, Timonium, Gambrills, and Burtonsville. The chain also has a Baltimore Peninsula location planned for early 2026.

By the Numbers: Derby Place will include 249 multi-family residential units along with retail and restaurant space. Residential construction is set to begin in Fall 2026.

The Big Picture: Eggspectation joins Whole Foods, Shake Shack, and VEG ER for Pets, an emergency veterinary clinic, as confirmed tenants at Derby Place. The development also includes landscaped common areas called pocket parks.

The Path Forward: With commercial construction set to begin in early July 2026, the Spring 2028 opening target for Eggspectation depends on that timeline holding.
