A Conowingo man was arrested Monday evening in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a young girl in a Bel Air neighborhood three days earlier, according to the Bel Air Police Department.

What’s Happening: Police say 32-year-old Christopher Jene Lane was taken into custody the evening of June 29 after the Bel Air Police Department and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office worked together to track him down. Lane was brought to the Bel Air Police Department, where he was interviewed, processed, and formally charged.

What’s Confirmed: Lane faces three charges:

  • Attempted kidnapping.
  • Attempted kidnapping of a child under 16.
  • Attempted false imprisonment.

He is being held without bond. Officers also seized his vehicle as part of the investigation.

Catch Up Quick: A young girl was grabbed from behind near a community pond on Majors Choice Drive, close to Moores Mill Road, at about 4:40 p.m. June 27. She screamed and ran. The man drove away in a white or gray sport utility vehicle before officers arrived. The girl was not physically injured.

What’s Still Unknown: Police are not releasing further details to protect the teen victim’s privacy and the integrity of the case, which remains active and pending before the court.

How This Affects Real People: Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Bel Air Police Department at (410) 638-4500.

Lane is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
