Two people were arrested Saturday afternoon after the driver of a stolen vehicle struck three law enforcement officers in a Bel Air parking lot and led police on a chase that ended in the Jarrettsville area.
What happened: Around 2:05 p.m., officers spotted a stolen vehicle in a parking lot near a Raising Cane’s restaurant in Bel Air. Before anyone moved to stop the car, the passenger got out and walked into the restaurant.
According to police, when officers approached the vehicle, the driver took off — hitting two Bel Air Police officers and a Harford County Sheriff’s deputy who were standing outside their vehicles. The car also hit law enforcement vehicles before leaving the lot. Officers chased the driver, who eventually got out of the car and ran on foot before being caught in the Jarrettsville area.
The passenger was also taken into custody.
The injured: One Bel Air officer was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore with injuries that are not life-threatening. A second Bel Air officer was hurt during the chase and treated at a local hospital. The sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries and did not need to go to a hospital.
The charges: The passenger, 18-year-old Janay Ellenore Morrison of Baltimore County, was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, possessing a stolen motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. The driver refused to give his name and was charged as John Doe. He faces two counts of attempted murder along with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, theft of a motor vehicle, possessing a stolen motor vehicle, resisting arrest, hit-and-run offenses, destruction of property, and multiple traffic violations.
