A fox found near the 2400 block of Claret Drive in Fallston has tested positive for rabies, the Harford County Health Department confirmed Tuesday.

What’s Happening: The Maryland Department of Health confirmed the positive test June 16. Health officials say the fox may have exposed other residents and pets in the surrounding area.

What’s Important: Anyone who had contact with a fox near Claret Drive should call the Harford County Health Department at (410) 877-2300.

The Path Forward: The health department is asking residents to take the following precautions:

  • Keep pets leashed on walks and monitored in the backyard.

  • Cover trash cans and do not leave pet food outside.
  • Avoid feeding, petting, or interacting with wildlife.
  • Call Harford County Animal Control at (410) 638-3505 if you see a stray animal acting aggressively, unusually friendly, lethargic, or disoriented.
