If you’ve noticed the Concord Point Lighthouse in Havre de Grace glowing red this week, there’s a reason. The historic landmark is taking part in “Light The Night for Fallen Firefighters,” a national tribute organized by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

What’s Happening: The campaign runs April 26 through May 3. It asks communities in all 50 states to light up landmarks, firehouses, businesses, and private homes in red to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty.

What’s Important: This year, 204 firefighters are being honored, including 97 who died in 2025 and 107 from earlier years. The week closes with a formal memorial weekend May 2-3 at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where those firefighters will be recognized by name.

Catch Up Quick: The Concord Point Lighthouse stands at the mouth of the Susquehanna River and was decommissioned in 1975, though it remains a well-known local landmark. Red is not entirely new to the lighthouse. Its light was changed to fixed red in 1879, then switched to fixed green in 1931, before it was eventually taken out of active service.
