A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Harford County until 9 p.m. Friday, and Havre de Grace has canceled its August First Friday event.

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, which covers Harford County and a wide area across the region, including the District of Columbia.

What’s happening: The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday and includes Harford County and nearby areas.

What’s canceled: The Havre de Grace Police Department said August First Friday will not happen as planned. “Due to the forecast and risk of quickly moving dangerous weather the August First Friday has been canceled. Please share this information,” the department said.

Where the watch applies: In Maryland, the watch includes Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges, Washington, and Baltimore City. It also includes the District of Columbia, parts of Virginia including Arlington and several cities and counties in northern and northwest Virginia, and parts of West Virginia including Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties.

The path forward: The watch is scheduled to expire at 9 p.m. Friday.
