A severe thunderstorm is moving through northern Harford County this afternoon, bringing winds strong enough to knock down trees and knock out power.
What’s happening: The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 3:45 p.m. The storm was spotted over Jarrettsville just before 3 p.m., moving east at 15 mph.
The threat: Forecasters are tracking wind gusts up to 60 mph. At that speed, trees and large branches can fall, blocking roads and damaging homes and vehicles. Loose outdoor objects can become dangerous projectiles. Scattered power outages are possible.
Where: Communities under the warning include Havre de Grace, Bel Air South, Bel Air North, Fallston, Jarrettsville, Pylesville, Darlington, Cardiff, Churchville, Norrisville, Scarboro, Forest Hill, Chrome Hill, Bynum, Street, Rocks, Hickory, and Whiteford.
What you should do: Go inside now if you are outdoors. Stay away from windows. Do not drive through roads blocked by downed trees. The warning is in effect until 3:45 p.m.
