Harford County broke ground this week on a new Special Operations facility on Ady Road in Hickory that will consolidate emergency services equipment and staff currently spread across three leased sites in Forest Hill.
What’s Happening: The new building, designated Special Ops Station 15, will be 16,200 square feet and will bring together the county’s special operations team, EMS clinicians, and their equipment under one roof on land already owned by the Harford County Department of Emergency Services.
What’s Important: The facility will include an equipment bay that doubles as a training area, dedicated hazardous materials storage, a decontamination room, bunk rooms for EMS crews and special operations technicians, a 40-person meeting room, and office space for eight crew chiefs currently working out of separate leased locations.
How This Affects Real People: EMS clinicians and their medic unit, currently stationed at the Department of Emergency Services, will also move to the new building. The training space will be used to prepare paramedics to enter hazardous areas and provide patient care before patients are removed from a scene.
“In an emergency every second counts,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said. “This new facility will bring critical equipment, specialized resources, and emergency personnel together under one roof to strengthen our response capabilities, improve coordination, and ensure our first responders have the support and tools necessary to serve our communities in those critical moments.”
The Path Forward: Construction is expected to be completed within 10 to 12 months.
