Searchers returned to the Susquehanna River Saturday morning to look for 18-year-old Mark Everett Coates III. High winds have made the water unsafe for anyone outside the search crews.
The search: Coates was last seen about 5 p.m. Wednesday near the Hatem Memorial Bridge. He had launched a small, 10-foot aluminum boat from the Water Street Boat Ramp in Havre de Grace.
What searchers found: His overturned boat was found Thursday morning near Garrett Island. Saturday marks the third day of the search, and aircraft are expected to fly over the area throughout the day.
A community comes together: Havre de Grace residents have rallied around the search for the missing 18-year-old, finding ways to support his family and the crews working to bring him home. From providing food and supplies to offering their time and assistance, neighbors have stepped up as the search remains at the forefront of the community’s thoughts.
Boating restrictions: Boaters must avoid the river between the Tydings Memorial Bridge on I-95 and the Amtrak Bridge. Only police and emergency crews are allowed to fly drones in the search area.
What’s next: The search remains active. Anyone with information about Coates can call Maryland Natural Resources Police at (410) 260-8888.
