The Harford County Board of Education has named two finalists to become the next superintendent of Harford County Public Schools.

Both finalists are current employees of the school system. They are Dr. Stacey Gerringer, principal of Abingdon Elementary School, and Dr. Dyann Mack, who currently serves as interim superintendent.

Stakeholder group interviews are scheduled for May 18. The board’s goal is to vote on a final selection by the end of May. The new superintendent would begin July 1.

The finalists

Gerringer has worked in Harford County Public Schools for more than 32 years. She has served as a teacher, mentor, teacher specialist, assistant principal, and principal at both Fountain Green Elementary School and Abingdon Elementary School. She also served as president of the Association of Public School Administrators and Supervisors of Harford County. She holds degrees in elementary education, school leadership, and educational leadership.

Mack is a graduate of Harford County Public Schools. She has more than 30 years of experience in education, including roles as a teacher, achievement gap coordinator, assistant principal, principal, director of school instruction and performance, executive director of school instruction and performance, and deputy superintendent of academics. She holds degrees in early childhood and elementary education, school leadership, and educational leadership.

How the search worked

The board contracted with the Maryland Association of Boards of Education in March 2026 to run the search. The public was asked to describe the qualities they wanted in a new superintendent. That input was used to build a candidate profile, which the board used to review applicants.

The superintendent position was posted in April 2026. The board conducted interviews in May to select the two finalists.

Board of Education President Lauren Paige said in a statement: “On behalf of the Board of Education, I am pleased that Dr. Stacey Gerringer and Dr. Dyann Mack have been selected as finalists in our superintendent search. Both candidates bring a deep understanding of Harford County Public Schools, shaped by years of dedicated service to our students, staff, and community. I look forward to hearing from our community and engaging in the stakeholder panel process so that community voices remain central to this important decision. The Board values this feedback as we move forward in selecting the next leader of HCPS and continuing our commitment to success for all learners.”
