Residents across Harford County got a rare, up-close look at the agencies that protect them Saturday, when dozens of law enforcement, fire, rescue and emergency medical services units gathered in Joppa for Harford County’s Public Safety Day.
The event was held May 30 at Mountain Christian Church in Joppa.
The Bel Air Police Department was among the agencies on hand, setting up a table where visitors could speak with officers, try on police protective gear, climb aboard a department motorcycle for a photo, and get a close look at patrol vehicles.

Fire trucks — including units with massive ladder towers — ambulances and water rescue craft were also on display. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the Aberdeen Police Department and the Havre de Grace Police Department all had representatives at the event.
One of the day’s bigger draws came early, when a Maryland State Police helicopter landed near the church buildings.
BGE also had a presence at the event, offering demonstrations through its MyBGE program on natural gas and electricity safety — including guidance on what to do in situations involving gas leaks or downed power lines.
